Key Benefits and Subsidy Structure#
The scheme provides a substantial subsidy to reduce the upfront cost of solar installation:
- Up to 1 kW capacity: ₹30,000 subsidy
- 1 kW to 2 kW capacity: ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 subsidy
- 2 kW to 3 kW capacity: ₹60,000 to ₹78,000 subsidy
- Above 3 kW capacity: Maximum subsidy capped at ₹78,000
Besides the subsidy, households can save up to ₹15,000 - ₹18,000 annually on electricity bills and earn extra income by selling surplus power to the distribution companies (DISCOMs).
Who is Eligible?#
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- Must own a house with a roof suitable for installing solar panels.
- Must have a valid electricity connection in their name.
- Should not have availed any other subsidy for solar panels previously.

How to Apply Online#
- Visit the official portal: pmsuryaghar.gov.in
- Register by providing your State, Electricity Distribution Company, Electricity Consumer Number, Mobile Number, and Email.
- Login with your Consumer Number and Mobile Number.
- Fill out the application for Rooftop Solar.
- Wait for feasibility approval from your DISCOM.
- Once approved, get the plant installed by any of the registered vendors in your state.
- Submit plant details and apply for a net meter.
- After net meter installation and inspection by DISCOM, a commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal.
- Submit bank account details and a cancelled cheque on the portal to receive the subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.
